S.K.P. Vidya Vihar

S.K.P. Vidya Vihar is located in Rajpur, which is under the Makhaduma post office in Banka district. It is a bit out of the way, which makes it a fairly peaceful spot for a school. The building is surrounded by some open land and a few trees that have grown tall over the years. We started this place because there weren’t many options for the kids around this part of Banka. The classrooms are basic, just walls, a ceiling, and rows of desks that have seen better days. We try to keep the paint fresh, but the sun and rain tend to peel it off after a season or two. There is a small office where we keep all the records in big metal cupboards. The teachers here come from the surrounding villages, and some of them have been teaching the same subjects for a decade or more. We don't have a lot of extra activities, we mostly just stick to the books and the syllabus. Every morning, the children line up for prayers before heading into their rooms. You can hear the chanting from the road if you are passing by at the right time. We don’t have a fancy bus service, so most kids arrive on foot or their parents drop them on a motorcycle. It’s a simple life here, just making sure the day-to-day work gets done and the students stay on track with their studies. It gets dusty in the dry months, but we manage.
