Ramrupai Balaji Steel

Ramrupai Balaji Steel is based in Tankuni, which is a small area in the Bhadrak district. Specifically, we are at Balabhadrapur where Ashok Kumar Malik oversees everything that goes on. Because we deal with steel, the whole environment is usually quite dusty and rough. Most of the work happens outside or under the large shed where we keep all the stock. The sun in Odisha is no joke, and by mid-morning, everyone is usually feeling the heat. We don't have a modern office with air conditioning; we just use a small room with a simple desk and some ledgers. Trucks are constantly coming and going, so the sound of metal clanging is the soundtrack to our day. There are a few workers here who help with the heavy lifting and we often eat our lunch together in the shade of a tree. The ground around the site is mostly gravel and dirt, which makes it hard to keep anything clean. It is physical work and your clothes are usually ruined by the end of the shift. Our main focus is just getting the orders loaded up and sent out on time. Being in this location for a while means that most people in the area know who we are. It’s a straightforward, honest way to earn a living without any unnecessary frills. We just handle the steel and talk to customers face to face.
