Taj West End

If you walk down Golf Course Road in Bangalore, you’ll find us at the Taj West End. It’s a pretty old place with a lot of big trees that have been here way longer than any of us. Working here is interesting because you feel like you are away from the city traffic, even though the main road is right there. We are just the staff who keep the place running every day. My shift usually starts with checking the grounds and seeing what needs fixing after the rain, because it rains a lot here in Bangalore. We don’t really think about "luxury" in the way the brochures talk about it. For us, it’s about making sure the coffee is hot and the rooms are clean before the next person shows up. There’s a lot of walking involved because the property is so spread out. We spend our time talking to each other through radios and trying to stay on top of everything. It’s a lot of work to keep an old building like this looking okay. We have some people who have worked here for thirty years, and they have all the real stories. We just like the quiet of the gardens in the morning before the day gets too loud. It’s a good place to work, even when it’s busy and stressful. We just take it one day at a time.
