Sri Lakshmi Batteries & Auto Electricals

Out here in Yeshwantpur at Hulimavu Gate B71, we spend our days surrounded by batteries and tangles of wires. The shop is on 2nd Main, 2nd Cross, right in the Thimmapa Reddy Extension. It’s a small space, and the smell of lead and acid is something you just get used to after a while. We have shelves filled with different sizes of batteries for cars and bikes. Most people come to see us when their vehicle won't start in the morning and they're in a bit of a hurry to get to work. We use our meters to test things and see if the alternator is doing its job or if the battery is just dead. It’s a lot of crouching down and reaching into tight spots under dashboards. The floor is usually covered in little bits of insulation and wire clippings that we sweep up at the end of the day. It’s not a very quiet job, especially when we have to test horns or when the traffic from the main road is heavy. We have a few old wooden benches for folks to wait on while we finish a job. It gets pretty hot inside during the summer months, but we keep the shutters open to get a bit of a breeze. We just focus on the task in front of us, whether it’s fixing a short circuit or installing a new battery. It’s plain, honest work that keeps us busy from morning until late evening.
