Sri Devi Darshan Hotel

Sri Devi Darshan Hotel is down in Nayandahalli, on the Jama Masjid Lane near Kherani Road. We call it a hotel but it’s really more of a place to eat. The kitchen stays busy from early morning because we have to get the breakfast items ready. It gets very steamy in the back with all the large pots boiling. We serve a lot of people who work nearby or are just passing through the lane. The location on Jama Masjid Lane means we get a mix of people every day. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside when the lunch hour hits. We don't have fancy furniture, just sturdy tables and benches that can be wiped down easily. The noise from Kherani Road is always there in the background. My apron is never clean for long because of the sambar and the flour. We don't spend money on advertising; people just know where we are in Nayandahalli. The floors get washed twice a day because of the heavy foot traffic. It’s a lot of standing and moving between the stove and the serving area. We just focus on getting the plates out fast so people can get back to their jobs. It is simple food for hungry people who don't want to wait around too long in the middle of their day. We just keep serving until the pots are empty.
