Sri Chamundeswari Battery Works

Down here at 460 Magadi Main Road in Kamakshi Palya, we spend our days dealing with batteries. Sri Chamundeswari Battery Works is a busy little spot. We have old batteries stacked up in the corner and tools lying around on the workbench. It smells like grease and metal mostly. People bring in their cars or bikes when they won't start, and we take a look. Sometimes it's just a quick charge needed, other times the whole thing is dead. It's heavy work, carrying those lead blocks back and forth all day. My overalls are pretty stained, but that's the job. The shop is right on the main road, so it’s loud with the buses going past. We don't have a waiting room or anything like that. People just stand around or go get a tea nearby while we finish up. It can get pretty hot inside during the summer months with the door open. We try to keep things organized, but when three trucks show up at once, it gets messy fast. I’ve been doing this for a long time now. It’s practical work. We just fix what comes in and keep the shop open. It’s not a big corporate operation, just a few of us working with our hands. We close up when the sun goes down and start again the next morning. There is always someone coming in with a dead battery just as we are trying to lock the gates.
