shree Dhanalakshmi Batteries

Shree Dhanalakshmi Batteries is tucked away in Kothanur Kalanagar, over on Br. Nath Pai Road in Vengurla, Sindhudurg. Being at number 7, we are easy to spot if you are looking for the stack of battery boxes out front. The air here feels a bit different than the city because we are in Sindhudurg, but the work is just as heavy. We have a lot of metal racks filled with different sizes of batteries for cars and back-up systems. It’s a simple setup. We have a couple of benches where we test things and a small area where we keep the chargers going. The sound of the hum from the machines is the background music to our day. People from around Kothanur come in when their vehicles won't start or when they need something for their house power. We don't use big fancy words to explain things; we just show them what is wrong and how to fix it. The shop can get a bit messy with old cables and empty crates, but we try to sweep up every afternoon before the sun sets. Sometimes the local kids play out on the road and we have to watch out when moving the heavy stock. We take turns going for lunch while someone stays behind to watch the shop. It’s a quiet life, mostly focused on the weight of the lead and the smell of the workshop during the long afternoons.
