S S Granites

You can find us out on Kanakapura Road, not too far from the Ravishankar Ashram. It’s a dusty spot because of all the stone we handle every day. We’ve got slabs of granite stacked up all over the yard, and there’s usually a truck or two being loaded up with heavy pieces. Most of the time, the sound of the saws is going in the background while we talk to people about what they need for their floors or counters. It’s hard work, lifting and moving these heavy things around, and our clothes usually show it by the end of the day. The sun beats down on the yard pretty hard in the afternoons, so we take breaks under the small tin roof near the entrance. People come by because they know where we are, right near the landmark of the ashram. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights; you just walk around the stacks and see what's available. Sometimes a piece has a crack or the color isn't quite right, so we have to sort through everything carefully. It’s a simple business, just selling stone to whoever needs it for their house or building project. We’ve been here a while now, watching the road get busier and busier with cars and bikes going past. We just keep moving the stone and helping the customers find something that works for them.
