Working at S M S Traders near Shivaji Nagar Khokhra Circle 25 is a bit of a workout every day. We handle a lot of bulk goods, so there are always sacks and heavy bags piled up near the entrance. The air is often thick with the smell of whatever we have in stock that week. It gets very loud outside because of the circle, with rickshaws and bikes constantly weaving through the traffic. We don't have much in the way of decoration here. The walls are just bare brick in some places and the floor is stained from years of moving things around. Most of our day is spent weighing items and tying up bags with thick twine. My clothes usually end up covered in some kind of dust by lunchtime. We have a small wooden stool behind the main counter where we sit when there are no customers, but that doesn't happen very often. The ledger book stays open on the desk all day so we can jot down the prices as they change. It is a hot place to work during the summer months because the ceiling fan is quite old and doesn't move much air. We know the other shopkeepers around here, and we sometimes swap news over the back fence. It's a busy, gritty kind of job but we are used to the pace. We stay open until the sun goes down and then we lock the heavy padlocks on the door.
