Plasto Designers is tucked away in Mahadevapura 17, and if you walked past, you’d probably hear the machines before you saw the sign. It’s a workspace first and foremost. We have sheets of plastic and different molds scattered across the benches, and the floor usually has some shavings or offcuts that we sweep up at the end of the shift. We don’t have a fancy showroom with carpets or bright lights. Instead, we have work tables and the smell of warm plastic being shaped. People bring us sketches or just tell us what they need made, and we figure out how to cut it or bend it to fit. It’s a lot of measuring and re-measuring because even a tiny bit off means the whole piece won’t work. The windows stay open mostly to keep the air moving, so you can hear the neighborhood activity outside while we work. We’ve been in this part of Mahadevapura for a while, and the neighbors are used to the hum of our equipment. Sometimes things get a bit messy when we are in the middle of a big project, but that’s just how it goes when you’re actually making things. It’s just us and the tools, trying to get the dimensions right and making sure the edges are smooth enough to handle without getting a scratch. We drink a lot of tea while waiting for the larger pieces to set correctly. It’s just a normal workshop doing daily production.
