Periwal Granites

If you head out to the Jigani Industrial Area, you will find us right opposite Tata Advance Materials at 23-B. It is a big open yard where we keep all the granite blocks and slabs. It’s a very industrial part of town, so it’s always a bit noisy and dusty with the trucks moving around. We’ve been here for a long time, dealing with the raw stone that comes in from the quarries. My day usually starts with checking the inventory and seeing what we need to cut for the current orders. Granite is heavy and difficult to move, so we spend a lot of time with the cranes and the cutters. It isn't a place for fancy shoes; you really need boots out here because of all the stone chips and water on the ground. People come to us when they are building a house and need something sturdy for their floors or kitchen tops. We show them the different colors and patterns, though the slabs look different when they are wet compared to when they are dry. It is a straightforward business without any hidden tricks. We just sell the stone as it is. Sometimes the rain slows us down because it gets slippery in the yard, but we just wait it out and get back to work. It’s a tough job but there is something nice about seeing a rough block turned into something smooth.
