Out here at No.5,D in the Attibele Industrial Area, things are always dusty and loud. That is just the nature of working with granite on Hosur Road. Anekal Taluk has a lot of these types of businesses, but we have been in this specific spot for a good number of years. You get used to the sound of the saws cutting through stone all day long. My cousin usually handles the yard while I stay in the small office trying to keep the ledger straight. It is not an easy job and your back starts to ache after a while if you are helping with the loading. The trucks coming off the highway sometimes get lost trying to find our gate, so we spend a lot of time giving directions over the phone. We don't have fancy furniture or a big reception area because most of our work happens outside on the gravel. When the rain comes, everything slows down and we have to cover the equipment, which is a bit of a pain. We just try to keep the slabs moving out to the sites where they are needed. It’s a lot of physical labor and sweat, especially in the summer months when the sun hits the stone and reflects the heat right back at you. We grab lunch at the stall down the road and get right back to it until the sun goes down.
