Oberoi Hotel

Down here at No.39 on M G Road, things are always moving. This part of the city never really goes quiet, so there is always some kind of background noise. The hotel has been sitting here for quite some time, and it shows in some of the corners, but we try to keep it clean. We have a few staff members who have lived in this neighborhood their whole lives. They know all the shortcuts and where to get the good snacks nearby. Most of the time, we are busy checking people in or making sure the linens are fresh. It’s a lot of physical work, running up and down the halls. The lobby isn't very big, so it gets crowded when a group arrives all at once. We don't use any fancy systems, just a lot of lists and notes to keep track of who is in which room. On rainy days, the entrance gets a bit slippery, so we have to stay on top of mopping it. People come here because it’s convenient for the shops and the offices around. We don't have any big slogans or anything. We just provide a bed and a roof for the night. Sometimes we sit out front when the sun goes down and watch the people go by on the sidewalk. There is a small newsstand right outside that we use every morning. The hallway carpets are a bit thin now, but they still feel okay under your feet.
