Myilai Masala

Myilai Masala is situated in JP Nagar 2nd Phase, right near the Central Mall area. It’s a busy part of town with lots of shoppers, but our little corner is where we do our thing. We deal with masalas and different spice blends that people use for their cooking. Most of the work happens in the back where we do the grinding. It’s quite loud when the machines are running, and the air gets thick with the smell of chillies and coriander. Sometimes it makes us sneeze, but we’re used to it by now. We put everything into clear packets so people can see exactly what they’re getting. We don't have any big posters or fancy displays in the shop. The shelves are just plain wood we put up ourselves. We’ve been in this part of JP Nagar for a while, even as the big mall went up nearby. A lot of our customers are folks who have been coming to us since we first started. My cousin handles the billing and I mostly look after the stock and the grinding machine. We don't use any fancy machinery for the packing, just a small sealer on the counter. It’s a simple business. We try to get the best ingredients we can find at the wholesale market. Some days it’s quiet and we just sit and talk, other days it’s a constant stream of people needing spices.
