Working at Modern Plastic on Cart Stand Road in Chickpet is quite an experience every day. If you know this part of town, you know how tight the lanes are and how many people are constantly moving around. Our shop is at number 18. It is a bit of a squeeze getting things in and out, especially when the big carts are blocking the way in the morning. We deal with all sorts of plastic items. Some are small things for the kitchen and some are quite bulky containers. The shop is usually filled with that specific smell of new plastic. It’s a bit cramped inside because we try to keep a lot of variety for anyone who stops by. We’ve had this spot for a good while now. My father started it, and I just sort of took over when I got older and finished school. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just find us by walking past or hearing about us from their neighbors. The walls are covered in samples of what we have. Sometimes it gets really hot in the afternoons, so we keep a small noisy fan going behind the counter. It’s not a quiet job, that’s for sure. There’s always someone haggling or a truck horn blowing right outside the door. But it keeps us on our toes. We just focus on getting the right items to the people who need them.
