Peenya 2nd Stage is a place where you always hear the sound of machines and trucks. Our unit, Manjushree Plastics, is tucked away in the 10th Cross of Doddanna Industrial Estate. It’s a busy area and the roads are never really smooth. We have the machines running for most of the day, making various plastic items that people need. The smell of melting plastic is something you get used to after a week of working here. Our address is 112/53, and it’s basically just a big shed with a small office corner where we keep the papers. The floor is usually covered in some scrap or the other, and we try to keep it clean, but it’s an uphill battle in a factory setting. Most of our workers live nearby and have been with us through many seasons. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. Most people just find us through word of mouth or because they were already in the industrial estate looking for something else. Lunch breaks are usually spent sitting outside on the steps because it gets too warm inside with the heaters going. It’s a lot of manual work, moving raw materials in and finished goods out. Sometimes the power goes out and everything stops, which is frustrating, but we just wait it out and start again once the grid is back up. It’s just a regular small-scale unit trying to keep up with the daily orders that come in every single week and that is that.
