Jaccana Stone Works

Down here at 64 Shanthala Nagar, things get pretty dusty on a daily basis. Being so close to Brigade Road means there’s always people moving around and the traffic noise never really stops. We’ve been at this spot for a while now, working with different kinds of stone and trying to keep the shop organized. It isn't easy because stone is heavy and it takes up a lot of room. Jaccana Stone Works is just a regular local business where we show up, do the work, and go home. On rainy days, the water tends to pool a bit near the front entrance, so we have to watch where we step. We have a few guys who handle the heavy lifting and they’re usually covered in white powder by lunchtime. We don’t have any fancy displays or a showroom that looks like a museum. It’s just a workspace with tools lying around and slabs leaning against the walls. Customers come in and out, asking about different types of rock or wanting to see how we cut things. We usually have the radio playing in the background to drown out some of the street noise from the main road. It gets cramped when a new delivery arrives, but we manage to shift things around. Sometimes the neighbors complain about the noise of the grinders, so we try to do the loudest parts of the job in the middle of the morning.
