H. J. S. Stones Ltd.

You’ll find H. J. S. Stones Ltd. on the 4th floor of HJS Chambers, which is at number 92 on Richmond Road. It’s a bit different being up in an office building rather than out in a dusty yard, but this is where we handle the business side of things. Richmond Road is always busy with cars and people, and you can hear the city noise even from the 4th floor. We don’t have a big, polished corporate suite. It’s just a practical office where we keep our samples and do our paperwork. There are stone samples sitting on most of the desks and shelves, which probably makes the place a bit heavier than your average office. We spend a lot of time on the phone and looking at blueprints. Even though we’re in HJS Chambers, we still have that connection to the quarries and the stone yards. We don’t use fancy business talk or try to sound bigger than we are. We just deal with the orders and make sure the logistics are moving. Sometimes the elevator in the building is slow, so we take the stairs. It’s a straightforward way to run a stone company in the middle of a busy city. People come up to see the different types of stone we can source, and we just lay them out on the table and talk about them. It’s a busy life, but we like the pace of Richmond Road.
