B V Kumar Consultants is up on the second floor at 59th Cross 7 in Mathikere. The stairs are a bit steep, so you have to watch your step when you're coming up. We’ve been in this building for quite a bit. The room has a high ceiling, which helps keep it cool, though we still use the old ceiling fans. You can hear them clicking as they spin. The desks are covered in folders and loose pages that we try to keep in order. From the window, you can see the street below and the people going about their business at the market. It’s a busy part of Mathikere, so there is always some noise coming up from the ground floor. We usually have the radio playing softly in the background to drown out the honking cars. B V Kumar spends most of his time in the back office, while the rest of us sit out front. We don't use fancy computer programs for everything; some things are still done by hand in big ledgers. It’s a bit old-fashioned, but it works for us. Lunchtime usually involves someone going out to get parcels of food for everyone. We eat at our desks and then get back to it. It’s a quiet sort of professional life, just keeping up with the daily tasks that come through the door. It is not very modern, but we get the job done.
