Anand Glass & Crockery

Anand Glass & Crockery is right in the heart of Chickpet at number 231, just next to the Vijay Vihar Hotel. If you know Bangalore, you know how Chickpet is—it is crowded, the lanes are narrow, and there is always someone pushing a cart past you. Our shop is filled with stacks of plates, glasses, and all kinds of kitchen items. We have to be careful moving around because there isn't much room and everything is breakable. We spend a lot of our time unpacking crates and putting things on shelves. It is a dusty job sometimes. We have been in Krishna Market for a long time, so we know most of the other shopkeepers around here. Customers come in looking for specific things, maybe a set of glasses or a heavy pot, and we have to dig through the stacks to find it. The lighting isn't the best, and the shop is a bit old-fashioned, but it works for us. We do not have a website or anything like that; people just know we are here. When it rains, the water splashes in from the street, so we have to move the boxes back. It is a busy life, standing on your feet all day and talking to customers. We just keep the shop open and try to keep everything organized, even though it usually looks a bit cluttered. There is always something that needs to be moved or cleaned.
