Agarwal Battery Works

Agarwal Battery Works is located right on H Siddiah Road, near Lalbagh Road. Our shop is at number 5, and it’s usually pretty easy to spot because of the stacks of old battery casings sitting near the entrance. We spend most of our time dealing with car batteries, inverters, and sometimes those smaller ones for bikes. The floor is usually a bit stained from the acid and water we use for refilling, and there’s always a faint smell of lead and chemicals in the air. It’s not the cleanest place to work, but we get the job done. My hands are usually covered in grease or black soot by noon. We have a few charging stations set up along the wall where rows of batteries sit for hours. People from around the area bring in their dead batteries hoping we can jump-start them or fix a loose connection. Sometimes they just need a bit of distilled water topped up. We don't really have a waiting room, so customers mostly stand around on the sidewalk or lean against their vehicles while we check the voltage. It gets quite noisy with the traffic on Lalbagh Road right outside. We’ve been at this spot for a long while, and we know most of the regular mechanics who stop by. It’s a simple operation with a few tools, a voltmeter, and a lot of heavy lifting.
