Richmond Town isn't where you'd expect a sheep business to be based, but that's where we are at Sara Shelters on Alfred Street. Most of the real work happens outside the city, obviously. Sheep need a lot of space and we spend a good chunk of our time driving back and forth from Shanthi Nagar. It’s a lot of mud and cleaning. My boots are usually a mess by noon most days. People ask why we do this in the city. Honestly, it started because we had some land and just kept adding more animals until it became a real thing. It’s not fancy at all. The office on Museum Rd is mostly just for paperwork and keeping the tax stuff straight. We deal with the daily chores of feeding and checking on the health of the flock. Sometimes the weather makes it hard, especially during the heavy rains when the ground gets too soft. We just handle it as it comes. It isn't a corporate setup with meetings and suits. It’s more about checking fences and making sure everyone is fed. If a sheep gets sick, that’s the whole day gone right there. We’ve been at this for a while now and the routine stays pretty much the same. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know. Alfred Street is quiet, which helps when we finally get back to the office to sit down for a bit. We just keep things moving one day at a time.
