If you come down to 4 Attibele 11th Cross, you’ll find Sri Maruthi Fabricators tucked away in the 1st Block. We’re right on Dr Rajkumar Road, so it’s easy to find if you know the area. The sound of metal hitting metal is pretty much the soundtrack to our days. It’s a noisy, busy place where there’s always someone welding or cutting something. We don’t have an air-conditioned office or fancy decorations. It’s a workshop, plain and simple. The floor is concrete and usually has some scraps of steel lying around. We wear our old clothes because they’re just going to get dirty anyway. It’s hard on the back sometimes, and the sparks can be a bit much, but we’ve been doing this for a long time. People around Dr Rajkumar Road know us for being steady and just getting the job done without a lot of fuss. We start early in the morning before it gets too hot, and we usually stay late if there’s a big project that needs finishing. It’s a practical kind of life. We don’t talk much while we’re working, mostly because the machines are too loud, but we know what needs to be done. It’s just us and the metal, trying to make things that will stand the test of time for the people who need them.
