We don't have a lot of bells and whistles here. The floor is concrete and there are stacks of material waiting to be used. Udyambag is the kind of place where you hear the sound of hammers and machines from every direction. It’s an industrial vibe through and through. We usually get in before the sun gets too high and start the machinery up. There’s a certain rhythm to the day that we have all gotten used to over time. The gates are heavy and the yard gets a bit muddy when it rains, but we manage. We aren’t interested in making things look polished for photos. We are just here to do the work that needs doing. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit, which is just part of being in an industrial zone. We know the other folks on the street and we sometimes borrow tools from each other. It’s a practical environment. We keep our tools clean even if the floor gets a bit of grease on it now and then. By the end of the shift, we are usually pretty tired but it’s a good kind of tired. We pack everything away and get ready to do it all again the next morning.
