Malaprabha Valley Fish Farmers Producer

We are based right near the bus stand in Hunashikatti, which makes it pretty easy for people to find us when they come into town. Our group is made up of local folks from around the Malaprabha Valley who spend most of their days working with fish. It is a quiet kind of life out here in Channamma Kittur, but the work itself keeps us very busy. We mostly hang out at Home No-768 when we need to do the paperwork or talk about how the ponds are doing. The weather around here can be a bit unpredictable, and that affects the water, so we spend a lot of time just checking on things and making sure the fish are healthy. We aren't some big fancy company with a lot of suits. It is just us, a bunch of farmers trying to figure out the best way to get our catch to the markets without losing too much money on the way. Usually, you can find one of us sitting outside the office near the bus stop in the afternoons. We don't have a lot of high-tech equipment, just the basic stuff that works for our situation. People stop by to chat about the rain or the price of feed, and that is how we like to run things. It is about staying local and helping the families in this valley keep their traditions going while making a decent living.
