On Bricks

Our yard is located in Village Sansarpur, right near the Sansarpur Chauraha on National Highway 28. If you’re driving along the highway, you can’t really miss us because of the big stacks of bricks and the smoke from the chimney. Being on NH 28 means we see a lot of travelers and heavy trucks passing by at high speeds. It’s a very dusty spot, mostly because of the highway traffic and the nature of the brick business. We are in the Hariya area, and most of our workers live in the village nearby. We spend our days digging the earth, mixing it, and setting the bricks to dry before they go into the fire. It’s a long process and you can’t really rush it. Sometimes the trucks coming to pick up an order get stuck in the soft dirt after a bit of rain, and we all have to go out and help push. That’s just part of the daily routine here. We don't have a fancy office, just a small shed where we keep the records and escape the sun. It’s loud because of the highway, but you get used to the sound of the horns after a week or two. We just keep doing what we’re doing, making bricks for the houses and buildings going up around Sansarpur. It’s tough work, but it’s what keeps us going every day. Sometimes we even have to check the kiln late into the night.
