Amar Saloon

Down here on Diamond Harbour Road, the saloon is a familiar spot for people in the South 24 Parganas area. It’s a straightforward place where we cut hair and offer shaves. The shop isn’t very big, but we make it work. We have the usual chairs and the big mirrors that show every grey hair. The road outside is usually busy with people traveling back and forth. We get a mix of locals and people just passing through. The humidity can be a bit much sometimes, but we keep the fans going. It’s a place where you can hear the latest news about the town while you wait your turn. We don’t go for anything high-end. It’s just a neighborhood saloon where we use basic tools and traditional methods. The floor gets swept many times a day, though there's always a bit of hair in the corners. We’ve been here long enough that the kids who used to come in are now bringing their own children. That’s the nice part about being in a place like Diamond Harbour. We know the families and the stories. There’s no rush here. We take our time with the scissors and make sure things look okay. It’s just us doing what we know how to do, day in and day out, on this busy stretch of road. We close up when the sun goes down and start again the next day. Sometimes we just sit outside when it is quiet and watch the traffic go by. It’s our way of spending the day.
