We are tucked away in Garia, over at Kamdohari Purbapara in South Kolkata, running things for Abhishek Creation. The neighborhood is mostly residential, so it feels quite different from the busy markets in the center of the city. We’ve set up our workspace here at R-166, where we spend most of our time on different creative projects and textile work. There’s usually a bit of noise from the street, maybe kids playing or someone selling vegetables from a cart in the lane. We have a few sewing machines and tables for cutting fabric in the main room. It gets a bit cramped when we have a big order to finish by the end of the week, but we manage somehow. The lighting could be better in the back room, but we’ve made do for years without complaining too much. We mostly focus on making things that people actually use in their daily lives. It’s not some high-end studio; it’s just a place where we put things together. Some of us have lived in this part of Kolkata our whole lives and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. We take a break in the afternoon for some tea and a bit of a chat about the news. The humid weather makes the fans work overtime, especially in the long summer months. It's a simple operation, really. We just like making things and making sure the quality is decent for our customers. Finding the place can be a bit tricky the first time.
