You’ll find us tucked away in Balia (North), Garia, right on Nepal Sarani. It’s a bit of a walk from the main station, but it’s a quiet enough neighborhood. The building is an old one, and we use the ground floor for all the handicraft work. There are baskets and tools scattered all over the place. It’s not the most organized office you’ll ever see, but we know where everything is. Most of the work is done by hand, so there’s always someone sitting on a stool weaving or carving something. The light isn’t great in the back room, so we try to do most of the detailed stuff near the front window. We get a lot of dust from the street when the wind picks up. Sometimes the neighbor’s cat wanders in and sits on the finished goods, which we have to watch out for. We don’t have a big staff, just a few local people who are good with their hands. We drink a lot of tea while we work and talk about the news or what’s happening in Garia. The shelves are packed with different items we’ve finished, and sometimes they sit there for weeks before they get sent out. It’s a slow process making things this way, but it’s what we do. We don’t use any big machines, just small hand tools that have been around forever. It feels more like a home than a business most days.
