I work here at Salagram Bhoorchand on the ground floor of the Rang building. It’s not a very big space but it’s enough for what we do every day. Most mornings start with unlocking the front door and checking what needs to be moved around. Being on the ground floor means we see everyone walking past on the sidewalk. Some people look in and some just keep going to their own jobs. It gets a bit dusty inside because of the street traffic outside but that is just how it is in this part of town. We have some old desks and a lot of papers that seem to pile up no matter how much we try to organize them. The light isn't the best in the back corner so we mostly stay near the front windows when we can. My chair squeaks a little bit when I sit down but I have gotten used to the sound over the years. We usually take turns going out to grab some tea or a quick snack from the vendors nearby. It's a pretty quiet routine most of the time. We just focus on getting the tasks done and making sure nothing gets lost in the shuffle. Sometimes the phone rings all afternoon and other times it stays silent for hours. We don’t really have a fancy setup here but it works for us. We just keep showing up and doing the work as it comes through the door.
