Down in Jolwa Korba Mithagar, things are always a bit chaotic. Our shop, Apexa Auto Parts, is tucked away near Ramamata Wadi and Barkat Ali. It’s a narrow area and cars are always parked where they shouldn't be. Inside the shop, it’s wall-to-wall shelves. We have parts for almost everything that drives around here. Most of the time, I’ve got grease on my sleeves or under my fingernails. It’s just the way it is when you’re handling metal and oil all day. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know to come here when something breaks on their vehicle. The lighting isn't great, so we use flashlights to find the smaller bolts and gaskets in the back. It’s a bit of a maze. Sometimes a cat wanders in from the street and sleeps on a pile of tires. We don't mind. The humidity gets high in this part of town, which makes the iron parts rust if we aren't careful. We spend a lot of time wiping things down. My father started this and now I'm the one looking after the counter. It's a lot of standing around and then suddenly five people show up at once wanting help. We do our best to find what they need in the stacks. It’s not a glamorous job but it keeps us busy and pays the bills for the family every month without fail.
