You can find us over at 26/28 Vidyapati Road in the B-Zone area of Durgapur. Sumit Kumar Rana looks after things here for Meghalaya Cement Ltd. Durgapur is an industrial town, so we fit right in with the factories and the smoke. Our work involves a lot of cement distribution and making sure the supplies reach the construction sites on time. It is a busy life, filled with truck schedules and loading bays. The office isn't anything special to look at. It’s a practical space where we keep our ledgers and talk to the drivers. We don't bother with corporate jargon because it doesn't help get the cement moved. We have a small group of people who have been working together for years. We know the roads of Burdwan like the back of our hands. Sometimes the heat in West Bengal is unbearable, and other times the rain turns everything into mud, but the cement still has to go out. We don't make big promises we can't keep. We just try to stay organized and keep the tally right. If you stop by Vidyapati Road, you’ll probably see a lot of activity and hear the sound of heavy vehicles. That’s just a normal day for us. We’re just a bunch of people trying to keep the construction industry moving forward. It’s not flashy, but it’s what we do day in and day out at Meghalaya Cement Ltd.
