Bengal Hardware

Our shop, Bengal Hardware, is located in the Ajhapur village area, right under the Jamalpur police station jurisdiction in Burdwan. It's a small place packed with all sorts of things people need for their homes. We have shelves full of nails, pipes, and various tools that we've collected over time. It can be a bit crowded inside, but we usually know exactly where everything is kept. Most days start with opening the shutters and sweeping the front step. People from around the village come by to grab a few bits for repairs or bigger projects. We know most of them by name since we've been here in Ajhapur for quite a while. Burdwan can get quite humid, so we try to keep the shop as airy as we can. Sometimes we sit on the wooden bench outside and chat with the locals while they wait. We don't have any big signs or bright lights. Just the name painted on the front and some displays of what we have in stock. If we don't have something, we try to get it in the next time the supply truck comes from the city. It’s a steady life. We handle the accounts ourselves and make sure the inventory is decent. There is always someone looking for a specific bolt or a particular wrench. We enjoy the rhythm of the village life here. It's a good way to spend the day, talking to neighbors and helping out with their small hardware needs.
