Down at 41, Khansuli Bazar on P N Malia Road in Raniganj, you’ll find Basukinath Hardware Store. It’s right in the middle of everything, so it’s always loud with the sounds of the market. We have everything from tiny screws to heavy tools jammed into every available space. It’s a bit of a struggle to keep it all organized, but we know where most things are. The dust from the road settles on everything, so we spend a lot of time wiping down the counters. People come in with broken parts of machines or old pipes and ask if we have something that matches. We spend our day climbing up and down ladders to reach the top shelves. It’s a physical job, and we’re usually pretty tired by the end of it.
