Ultapani Valley Fed Farmer Producer Company Limited is over at C/O Pushpachandrawati Mudapara in Karabelmainpat, which is part of the Sarguja district here in Chhatisgarh. Living and working in the valley area means things move at a certain pace. The name Ultapani is pretty well known around here, so it made sense to use it for the company. We spend a lot of our time coordinating with the different families in Mudapara and the surrounding patches of land. The office isn't much more than a room with some chairs and a table where we can sit down and talk about the harvest. It gets quite cool in this part of Sarguja compared to the plains, which is nice when we have to spend all day looking at papers and receipts. We aren't experts in business management or anything like that, we just learned the rules for producer companies because we had to. Sometimes the internet connection isn't the best, so we end up doing a lot of things by hand and then entering them into the computer later when the signal comes back. It is a bit of a slow process, but we are used to it by now. The people who come by are usually our friends or relatives, so the atmosphere is pretty relaxed. We just try to keep things organized so everyone gets what they need for their farms and the ledger stays balanced at the end of the month.
