Vidyaniketan Government School

Vidyaniketan Government School is situated on Bilgi Road in Galagadhi. It’s one of those older government buildings that has seen a lot of use over the years. You might notice some cracks in the plaster or some paint peeling in the corners, but it serves the local community well enough. There is a large central courtyard where we gather for the morning assembly before the heat of the day really kicks in. The rooms have stone floors which stay quite cool, even when it is hot outside. We have a small team of teachers who often have to teach more than one grade at a time because we are not a very large staff. On Bilgi Road, the heavy trucks go by all the time and you can hear them rumbling in the distance while the lessons are going on. We have a small collection of books on a shelf that acts as our library. Most of the children here come from families in the Galagadhi area who work nearby. Everyone knows each other, so if a student doesn't show up, we usually hear the reason from a neighbor or a cousin. The school day starts early and ends in the afternoon so the kids can get home to help their families with whatever chores need doing. It is a very simple and functional way to run a school for the local residents.
