Elegant Colours

Our place is right across from Navdeep Chemicals here in the GIDC estate. If you’re looking for Plot No. C-1/436, you’ll probably see the color stains on the concrete floor before you even see our sign. Elegant Colours sounds a bit fancy, but the reality is much more about old overalls covered in various shades of powder. We spend most of the day surrounded by heavy bags of different pigments and dyes. Sometimes the air itself looks a bit blue or red if a bag happens to tear during unloading. It’s just me and a few other guys trying to keep things organized in a space that always feels a bit too small. The phone rings a lot with people asking about their delivery times. We try to be fast, but sometimes the mixing machines act up or a shipment gets delayed at the main gate. We’ve been in this exact spot for a long time. The tea stall around the corner is where we usually take our breaks and talk about the cricket scores. It’s nothing special, just a warehouse with some basic mixing equipment and a lot of barrels. We don’t have a big reception area or anyone to greet you with a smile at the door. Usually, you just walk in and find someone near the back covered in dust. It’s loud because of the grinders, so we end up shouting to hear each other. By five o'clock, everyone is ready to wash up and head home. It’s steady work, and we don't complain much.
