Jijaau Cultivator Producer Company Limited

Shri Surendra Ambadas Kalmeghat’s house is where we usually gather. It’s located in Chausala, which is under the Anjangaon Surji area. Being a cultivator group means we spend most of our time out in the dirt rather than sitting behind a computer. The office part is just a small section of the home really. In Chausala, everyone is pretty much doing the same thing, growing whatever the season allows. We formed this company to help each other out with the farming side of things. Sometimes the rain doesn't come when we need it, and other times it's too much, but that's just how it goes here. We don't have a big sign or a fancy entrance. You just look for the Kalmeghat house and you'll find someone working on the accounts or talking about the latest harvest. It’s a quiet village life mostly, apart from when the tractors are running. We deal with all sorts of crops, and the paperwork usually happens in the evenings after the sun goes down and the field work is finished. It’s not a corporate job by any means. We are just a bunch of local cultivators trying to make sense of the market and get a fair deal for what we grow. It takes a lot of patience. Sometimes the roads to Anjangaon Surji are bumpy, but we’re used to it by now. We just keep at it, day after day.
