Sasmita Fly Ash Bricks

Located in Golabandha Village, right near the post office in the Banarpal area. We are easy to spot because we are close to the Community Hall Center. This business is all about fly ash bricks, which means everything around here is a shade of grey. The dust settles on the leaves of the trees and on our desk within an hour of cleaning it. It is a busy spot in Anugul District, and we have been at it for a while now. The machine for pressing the bricks makes a steady thumping sound all through the morning. We do not have much of a garden or anything, just rows and rows of grey bricks drying in the sun. The weather in this part of Odisha gets very humid, so we drink a lot of water and try to stay under the tin roof when we can. We have a small group of workers who know exactly what they are doing. Most of the people we sell to are locals building small shops or boundary walls. We do not spend money on advertising; people just see the stacks from the road and stop their bikes. It is a practical business without any frills. We spend our time checking the mix and loading up the trailers that come by. It is hard work, but it keeps us busy from dawn till dusk.
