About Jindal Steel & Power Limited – Metals & Minerals in Angul
We’ve been here in Village-Balkudra for a while now. Most folks around here know the Jindal Steel & Power Limited plant. It’s a big place, lots of noise and heat, but that's just how making steel goes. We get up early, head to the site, and start the furnaces. There’s always trucks coming and going on the main road. It gets dusty, especially in the dry season, but we keep at it. My cousin works in the yard too. We aren't doing anything fancy, just moving metal and keeping the machines running. Some days the shifts are long. You see the same faces every morning at the gate. We take our breaks together and talk about the weather or how the local cricket team is doing. It’s hard work, no doubt about that. The iron gets hot and you have to be careful where you step. We handle the materials and make sure the shipments get loaded up for the long haul. It's just a regular job for us. We don't spend much time thinking about anything other than getting the work done right so we can go home to our families. The village is quiet at night compared to the noise of the machinery during the day. We’ve seen the place change over the years. Some people have been here since the start. It’s just how life is in Balkudra. We show up, do the shift, and keep the steel moving out.
