Ganpati Steel

Our shop, Ganpati Steel, is located in Village Jhumpura. We are in the Keonjhar district and the best way to find us is to look for the State Bank of India because we are right near it. The shop is basically a large open-sided shed where we store all the steel rods and bars. It’s a very rural area, so things move a bit slower here than in the big cities. We spend a lot of time waiting for the heavy trucks to arrive from the main plants. When they get here, we have to move all that steel by hand, which is exhausting. We’ve been in Jhumpura for a long time and everyone in the village knows where we are. We don't have a website or any social media. If you need steel, you just walk in and talk to us. We have a small wooden table where we sit and do the billing. There’s usually a dog sleeping in the shade of the steel stacks. We drink tea from the stall across the road and talk to the farmers who come into the bank. The air in Keonjhar can be quite dusty, especially in the dry season. We don't have a mission statement or any corporate goals. We just want to sell enough steel to keep the business going and help the locals build their homes. It’s a simple, honest way to live, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
