Bihari Singh K.Inter College

Being out here in Rahra, near Hasnpur, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Bihari Singh K.Inter College is a sturdy brick building that stands out against the local fields. In Amroha, the weather really dictates how the day goes for us. If it is harvesting season, you might see fewer people in the halls because there is a lot of work to be done at home. The road to the college can get quite dusty in the summer months. We have a front gate that squeaks every time someone pushes it open, which is basically all day long. The students come from the village and the surrounding areas, some of them walking quite a distance to get here. Inside the rooms, the desks are heavy wood and have names scratched into them from students years ago. We try to keep things organized, but with so many people coming through, there is always a bit of chaos. The staff room has a small stove for tea, and that is where most of the news from the district gets discussed. It is not a modern glass building or anything like that. It is just a place for learning. Sometimes the birds get into the rafters and make a lot of noise during the quiet parts of the day. You get used to the sound of the tractors passing by on the main road. We do not have fancy equipment, just the books and the blackboards.
