Our little workshop is located on Ajnala Road, very close to the Air Force Cantt area. Sarvan Shoe Maker has been here for a long time, and we spend our days focusing on repairing footwear for the local people. The smell of leather, glue, and polish is something you notice as soon as you step inside. It is a small, cramped space, and we usually have piles of boots and shoes waiting to be fixed sitting on the floor. We still use old-fashioned machines and hand tools that have been passed down to us. It is a messy job, and our hands are almost always stained with dark dyes or shoe cream. Many of our regulars are from the Air Force base nearby, and they bring us their heavy boots when the soles start to wear out. We don't have a fancy showroom or any big marketing signs out front. Most folks find us just by walking down Ajnala Road or because a friend told them about our work. The process of fixing a shoe is slow and requires a lot of patience. Sometimes we are just replacing a broken lace or a heel, but other times we have to take the whole thing apart. It is a basic trade that hasn't changed much in decades. We work through the daylight hours and watch the traffic head toward the airport. It isn't a glamorous way to make a living, but it is honest and keeps us busy. We just focus on getting the stitch right.
