Indra Woollens

If you ever find yourself wandering through Katra Ahluwalia, you know how packed those streets get. Our shop is tucked away on the first floor of Krishna Market, right at shop number nine. Indra Woollens has been sitting in this spot for a good while. Dealing with wool and fabrics is what we’ve always done. The market is always loud with people haggling and tea sellers running around, but up here on the first floor, it’s a little bit quieter. We spend our days surrounded by rolls of fabric and stacks of woollen goods. It’s a tight space, but we know where everything is kept. Customers come up the stairs looking for something warm or a specific type of material, and we show them what we have on the shelves. Sometimes the lights flicker when the market power is a bit shaky, but we just keep going. It’s a family kind of atmosphere here. We aren't trying to be some big showroom with bright lights. It’s just a shop where we sell wool and talk to the regulars who have been coming to us for years. The stairs are a bit narrow, so you have to be careful when you're carrying heavy bundles down to the street. During the winter months, things get really busy, and the shop feels even smaller with all the stock piled up to the ceiling. We drink a lot of chai and keep the business running one day at a time. It’s just how life works in Krishna Market for us.
