Being over here at 83 New Colony, near the New Bye Pass, makes it easy for trucks to get to us. We make all sorts of cement things. It’s mostly pipes and blocks for the local building work going on around here. My cousin and I started this because there was a lot of new construction happening and everyone needed materials. We aren't a big factory with robots. It’s mostly just a few of us mixing the concrete and pouring it into the molds. It gets pretty messy, especially when it rains, but that’s just how it is with cement. We keep our stock out in the yard so people can see what’s available. If you're driving by the bypass, you can see the stacks of pipes from the road. We don't spend much on advertising because word of mouth in the colony works better anyway. Sometimes the mix takes longer to dry if the weather is damp, so we tell people to check back in a couple of days. We’ve had some regulars for years now who just drop by to see what we have in stock. It’s a simple setup. We focus on getting the weight and the shape right so the stuff actually works when you put it in the ground. That's about it for us and how we do things.
