Out here in Bagar Meo, Alwar, things move at a slightly different pace. Our school is a government senior secondary school, so we have a lot of students coming from the villages around here. The building has seen many years, and it has that look of a place that has been well-used by a lot of generations. We have large courtyards where the morning assembly happens, and that’s when you really see how many people are part of this community. The office is usually full of registers and stacks of paper because that’s just how government schools work. We spend a lot of time on administrative tasks, but the main goal is always the classroom. It can get very dusty in Alwar, especially when the wind picks up, so we are always sweeping out the rooms. We don't have air conditioning or anything fancy, just ceiling fans that hum all day long. The teachers here are used to the heat and the noise. We all know each other pretty well, and there isn't much hierarchy in how we talk. We just focus on the students who travel long distances to get here. When the final bell rings, there’s a massive rush for the gates as everyone heads back to their homes in the surrounding area. It’s a simple, honest way to run a school in this part of Rajasthan.
