Katra is a busy spot, especially being so close to the bus stop. You can hear the conductors shouting all day long while we are working inside. Our place is at No 3, and it’s usually filled with big cooking pots and stacks of chairs. In Allahabad, everyone knows how crowded this area gets. We spend most mornings checking the stoves or counting the plates. There is always a smell of something being cooked or the smell of old tents being aired out. We don’t have a big office, just a desk near the front where the accounts are kept. Sometimes the dust from the road comes inside, so we are always cleaning the tables. When a big group comes by from the bus stop, it gets even noisier. We handle a lot of different things, from food to setting up the decorations. It’s hard work, especially when we have to move everything in the heat. We don't use fancy computers for everything; mostly just notes and phone calls. The workers sit out front when they take a break. It's a local business and we’ve been here in this part of town for a good amount of time now. The neighbors know us well. We just try to keep things moving along and make sure everything is where it needs to be when the trucks arrive. It gets very hectic during the wedding months.
