About Manakkal Coir Industries – Rubber in Alappuzha
We started Manakkal Coir Industries a while back. It’s right across from St. Alphona Church. Mostly, we deal with coconut husks and making different coir things. It gets pretty dusty around here during the day, but that’s just how the work goes. We have a few machines running, and the staff usually knows what they’re doing without much talk. It’s not a fancy place, just a shed and some yard space where we dry stuff out. Sometimes the rain messes with the drying schedule, which is a bit of a headache. Local people know where we are. We don’t have a big sign or anything, just the work happening. You can see the bundles stacked up if you pass by the church. It’s steady work. We’ve been at this for some time now, and the routine stays about the same. Coir is one of those things that’s always needed for mats or ropes. We just keep making it. Some days are busier than others depending on the orders coming in from the nearby towns. We don’t spend much time on the computer or anything like that. If someone needs coir, they usually just stop by or call the old number. It’s a simple setup. We try to keep the quality okay so people don't complain. That's about all there is to it. The smell of coconut fiber is always in the air here. We have a few piles of raw material waiting to be processed near the gate. On hot days, the work is tiring, but we take a long break in the afternoon. Most of the guys have been with us for years. We just do our bit every day.
