Cat Coir is located right near the CHC in Muhamma. If you know the area, the spot is easy to find. The smell of coconut husks is pretty much everywhere here. It gets under your fingernails and stays in your clothes, but you get used to it after a couple of days. We spend our time dealing with the raw materials that come in from around the village. It is dusty work, and on windy days, the tiny fibers fly all over the yard. We have a few old machines that make a lot of noise, but they have been here for years. The place is not anything special to look at. It is just a shed and some open space where we dry things out under the sun. We do not have a fancy reception or a person sitting at a front desk. Usually, if you show up, you will find someone covered in dust out back. We just follow the same routine every morning. The sun comes up, we start the machines, and we work until the heat gets too much or it is time to lock up. Muhamma is a quiet place, and we like being part of the local landscape here. It is an honest way to spend the day, even if it is a bit tiring. We just focus on the piles of coir in front of us and try to get through the day’s load before it rains.
