Kerala Dreams

We’ve been sitting here at Poomkavu Junction for a while now, right on the side of NH 47 where the trucks never seem to stop rumbling by. It’s a busy spot, especially when the rain starts coming down hard and the water pools up near the entrance. Most days it’s just us handling whatever comes through the door. Sometimes people get lost looking for the turnoff because the signs are a bit faded from the sun, but if you see the old tree near the junction, you’re basically there. It’s not a fancy setup. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but the work gets done regardless of how it looks inside. Early mornings are best before the heat really kicks in. The tea shop next door does a decent job of keeping us awake when the afternoon slump hits. Not much happens in the way of big announcements or anything like that around here. Most people just know where to find us by now. A lot of dust comes in because of all the roadwork that always seems to be happening on the highway, but we’re used to it. The fan in the corner makes a bit of a clicking sound that we’ve stopped noticing. It’s just how things are. That same wooden desk has been here for years and it’s seen a lot of paperwork. Life is quiet enough despite the traffic.
